How these links work

Links are permanent, and they are not versioned

A document’s URL names the work, not the edition. Cite it, share it, and it will still resolve years later — and it will return whatever edition is current when the reader arrives.

The edition lives inside the document: on the cover, in the footers and in the attribution line. So if you need to cite a specific one, cite the work, the edition and the date you accessed it.

Editions are recorded, not hidden

When we publish a new edition it replaces the file at the same address. Each entry above records the edition, its date and its SHA-256, so you can check that the file you hold is the one described here — and tell when it has moved on.

Some earlier documents were published at links that name a version, such as …-v1.0.pdf. Those keep working exactly as they are. They are cited in print and will not be moved or redirected.
